LGBTQIA+ Services Workshop

The City of Middletown's LGBTQIA+ Commission held a workshop highlighting local organizations that provide services to the LGBTQIA+ community on May 25th.  A recording of the workshop is available below.

Middletown Pride

Middletown Pride is one of Connecticut's largest pride events held in downtown Middletown, Connecticut each June. We believe that pride is both a demonstration for, and a celebration of, our local LGBTQIA2S+ communities.  With that said, Middletown Pride is not just a pride event, but a year round movement.  In furtherance of this goal, Middletown Pride creates safe and visible spaces in the City of Middletown by providing education and training for and about the LGBTQIA2S+ communities, and holds FREE pride events throughout the year.

The purpose of the LGBTQIA+ Commission shall be to serve as an advisory body to the Mayor and Common Council regarding issues actually or potentially affecting persons within the LGBTQIA+ community, with the aim of improving the ability of the City of Middletown to serve, support, and promote the LGBTQIA+ community, to recommend measures designed to enhance the health, safety, economic opportunity and affordability, educational programs, cultural and learning opportunities, government access and accountability for the LGBTQIA+ community, to facilitate pride events, gatherings, meetings, and forums on issues of concern for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Middletown Gender and Sexuality Alliance

We provide a safe and accepting environment at Middletown High School for any and all students apart of the LGBTQIA+ community or allies.  We work to promote acceptance and equal opportunities for students at MHS and within Middletown.

The Q Plus mission is to uplift and empower queer youth by facilitating groups, activities, and events that address the needs queer youth themselves identify. Our overall goal is to create space for queer youth to be authentically and entirely themselves. Our special events include open mics, a social justice and leadership summer camp, self care crafting events, and a potential lavender graduation. Our ten youth groups and three adult caregiver support groups meet in six towns, and we have plans to expand to more areas in the fall.

PROUD Academy, Inc

PROUD Academy, Inc.,is a nonprofit with the goal of opening and operating a private school geared for our LGBTQ+ students and their allies.  Our mission is to provide a safe and affirming educational environment where each student can engage in an inclusive rigorous curriculum free from bullying and harassment, to support a diverse population inclusive of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, race, religion, socioeconomic status, and disabilities, and to empower our learning community to recognize strength in their uniqueness.

Middlesex Health

Based in Middletown, Conn., Middlesex Health, a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, includes Middlesex Hospital, a not-for-profit magnet hospital with 275 beds, and two Middlesex Health Cancer Center locations. It also features three emergency departments and two urgent care centers, along with many other programs and services.
