Updated Information on Eversource Bill Payment Assistance

April 14, 2021

Dear Community,

As the pandemic continues to impact residents of Middletown financially and in unprecedented ways, many are finding it difficult to keep up with routine expenses. It can be hard and humbling to accept help at times, but you do not need to struggle alone. I in no way intend to dismiss the extreme hardships felt by many. However, I want to make sure everyone continues to be aware of the numerous assistance programs available during this time.

A recording of an online information session the City of Middletown hosted with Eversource on March 25, 2021 is available below. The video provides residents with more information about the assistance programs that are available to help ease the burden of energy bills. All customers, regardless of financial status, can enroll in the COVID-19 payment plan to pay a past-due balance over a period of up to 24 months. For more information, please call Eversource at 800-286-2828 (electric customers) or 800-438-2278 (gas customers) or visit Eversource's Bill Help. Additional financial assistance for overdue bills for qualified customers may be available through Operation Fuel. Visit OperationFuel.org or call 860-243-2345 for more information.

Your local Community Action Agency can provide guidance on available assistance programs. Please visit CAFCA.org or 211CT.org, or call 211 to connect with the Community Action Agency closest to you. For additional information on pandemic-related assistance that is available, please visit the COVID-19 Resources section of the City of Middletown website. Additional information is also available on the State of Connecticut’s website, at https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/Relief-and-Support.

Middletown is a wonderful community filled with caring residents and agencies ready to provide assistance. The following are some of the local organizations that may be able to offer assistance: Middlesex United Way (https://www.middlesexunitedway.org/); Amazing Grace Food Pantry (https://svdmiddletown.org/food-pantry/); North End Action Team, including information on Middletown Mutual Aid (https://neatmiddletown.org/).

I hope that these programs offer a bit of relief as we work towards recovering from the hardships of the past year. The well-being of the community is always at the center of every initiative I undertake. You have my commitment to continue to work to make sure all members of this community recover from the challenges of the past year, and to find creative and innovative ways for us to move toward a brighter future.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Florsheim

Mayor
