Annual Water Main Flushing Program to begin March 13th

The City of Middletown Water Department will commence the State mandated annual water main flushing program beginning the week of March 13, 2023. Flushing will occur during the hours of 8 AM to 3 PM.  The flushing program will start with the Westfield and the South Fire Districts and then move toward the Middletown Central Fire District. The Downtown Area will be flushed last.  Please note that the duration of the flushing program is impacted by weather conditions and is anticipated to last 10 to 12 weeks. Please see the City of Middletown website for more details.

Water main flushing is an essential part of our ongoing efforts to maintain water quality and capacity in our distribution system. You may notice pressure fluctuations during flushing. Flushing scours the inside of the water mains and can stir up harmless sediment that can cause discolored water. This is not a health concern but if you are experiencing discolored water we do not recommend you use the washing machine, the dishwasher, ice machines, and other water-using devices until the water has cleared. You should also refrain from drinking the water until it is clear as it will be neither aesthetically pleasing nor good tasting. Discolored water can be cleared by running the cold water tap for a couple of minutes. If the water doesn’t clear after a short period, or if you have specific concerns, please contact the water department at 860.638.3500.

The City of Middletown Water Department appreciates your patience as we work to improve the quality of drinking water we provide to the community.
