Dear Recyclers,

Happy November! Here's some updates on what's happening in Middletown.

1. Please don't throw your pumpkins in the trash! You can bring unpainted pumpkins to Middletown Recreation's Pumpkin Smash event on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Veterans Park from 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. This is also opening day for the skating rink in the same location! If you can't make this event, you can drop pumpkins in the food waste containers at the Recycling Center or 675 Randolph Road. Pumpkins are also great for composting and for wildlife! They are not great for landfills and incinerators, where they contribute to our trash disposal crisis and climate change.

2. Nov. 6 and 7th is the grand opening of Middletown's first Refill Store, Reboot Eco, at 131 River Road. This is an exciting new small business that offer refill options for household cleaners and bath products. Bring your own containers or use one of theirs! They also offer a variety of interesting zero waste products. I'll be there from 12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, with others in a Makers Market. I'll be answering questions about trash, recycling and waste reduction and offering information on our upcoming video and take home kit on making your own Beeswax Wraps!

3. The Recycling Center will be closed for Veteran's Day, November 11, and the Thanksgiving Holiday, November 25 & 26. It will be open those Saturdays, Nov. 13 & Nov. 27.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and enjoy this beautiful month!

Happy Recycling,

Kim O'Rourke
