UPDATED PRESS RELEASE - SHOOTING (Rome Ave)
On 07-18-2022 at approximately 1:31pm, the Middletown Police Department received initial reports from the public that the occupants of two vehicles were shooting at one another in the area of Rome Avenue and Stack Street. Officers responded immediately but one caller reported that both vehicles had already left the area prior to police arrival. Patrol Officers immediately identified that there was no immediate threat to the public and Detectives from the Major Investigations Unit were called to the scene for processing.
Preliminary findings suggest that two vehicles were traveling north on Rome Avenue. The occupant(s) of the rear vehicle began to shoot at the vehicle in front of him/her. After the gunfire ended, one suspect vehicle turned east onto Stack Street and the second vehicle turned west onto Stack Street.
It is unknown whether the gunfire struck any of the involved vehicles. This incident appears to be an isolated event with the occupant(s) of one vehicle targeting the occupant(s) of another vehicle.
Detectives determined that one bullet struck the door to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry located at 16 Stack Street but there are no reported injuries from this incident.
This is an active investigation. Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect(s) are encouraged to contact Det. Dane Semper of the Middletown Major Investigations Unit at 860-638-4145.
