PRESS RELEASE - STRUCTURE FIRE 

On 09-01-2022 at approximately 4:21am the Middletown Police and Middletown Fire Department were called to 128 Pine Street for the report of a structure fire. Police Officers provided traffic direction and scene security while multiple fire departments responded. 

During the course of fighting the fire, a male was located in the residence and found to be unresponsive. The male was removed from the residence and EMS personnel attempted to resuscitate him. Unfortunately EMS were unable to do so and the male was pronounced deceased on scene. The male was later identified as 63-year-old Carl Rankins.

This case is currently under investigation as a coordinated effort between Middletown Fire, Middletown Police, and CT State Police Fire Marshals. At this time there does not appear to be any criminal element. Anyone with information on the fire is encouraged to contact Sgt. Daniel Smith at the Middletown Police Department (860-638-4131).
