PRESS RELEASE - MVA

On November 2, 2022 at approximately 4:32pm the Middletown Police were called to the intersection of Reservoir Rd and Saybrook Rd for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. On arrival, officers determined that 19-year-old Ivan Lazaro had been stopped at the intersection in his 2006 Chevy Cobalt when his vehicle was struck from the rear by a 2018 Toyota Camry being operated by 63-year-old Michael Cavanaugh. The force of the impact  pushed both vehicles onto Saybrook Rd.

Ivan Lazaro was transported to Hartford Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He is said to be in stable condition.

Officers determined that Michael Cavanaugh had likely suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose consciousness before the impact. EMS personnel were able to stabilize Cavanaugh on scene and he was transported to Hartford Hospital as well. Cavanaugh remains in critical condition.
