Compost Bins

Middletown's Compost Bin Garden

We are in the final stages of completing our compost bin garden right next to Reboot Eco at 131 River Road. There are several compost bins on site and signage will be installed in the next couple weeks.  This garden will be a demonstration area to educate people on backyard composting.  We are looking for a few families, individual or youth groups to contribute food scraps to the garden and help us maintain it through the spring, summer and fall. Interested parties should contact the Recycling Coordinator at 860-638-4855 or Recycling@middletownct.gov.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers to serve on our Resource Recycling Commission and Sustainable Middletown Team.  If you are interested please contact the City Recycling Coordinator or Krishna Winston.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days Announced

The 2023 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Schedule has been announced.  Residents can attend collections in any of the RiverCOG towns at no charge. Glass Container

Separate Glass Recycling Container

Some of you may have noticed our new glass only container at the recycling center.  This container is for GLASS ONLY.  As you may know, the cost of recycling is currently more than trash. Glass is very heavy.  And glass breaks and degrades the quality of the other materials in the recycling.  By removing glass from the mix, we can improve the quality of the recycling and help manage costs. The glass delivered to this container will be turned into new glass bottles.   Acceptable items in this Glass Only Container are: food and beverage containers (all colors) and drinking glasses.  Labels are ok. Preferably no caps. Definitely no light bulbs, ceramics, mugs, dishes, candle glass, vases, Pyrex, windows, gas cylinders or anything else.  This material must be very clean to get recycled. Please don't contaminate it! No wishcycling!  Glass food and beverage bottles can still be placed in your curbside recycling, but we are offering this option for those interested in doing more.  I'll have more on the city website in the next few weeks!
