On March 27, 2023 at approximately 11:29 pm, the Middletown Police were called to Wendy’s Restaurant (950 Washington Street) for the report of an armed robbery. On arrival, Officers learned that one suspect forced his way into the restaurant after an employee unlocked the door for a drive through order. The suspect grabbed the manager and threatened her with a knife. He demanded that the manager open the restaurant safe and give him the cash. A second suspect was present but remained at the entry door waiting. A patron of the restaurant reported that the second suspect was holding a firearm.
Both suspects left the restaurant property, after obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe, and fled on foot to a nearby vehicle. A Middletown Officer responding to the scene observed a silver colored sedan traveling east on Washington Street at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle but the operator failed to pull over. Officers pursued the vehicle east on Route 66 to Interstate 91 South. The pursuit was terminated in the area of I-91 South at exit 14.

The suspect with the knife was described as a black male wearing a blue, long sleeve hooded sweatshirt with white markings, black sneakers, and dark colored pants.
