Press Release - Assault 1st on Elderly Victim
On March 23, 2023 Middletown Police Officers responded to the area of the Russell Library (123 Broad Street) to investigate the report of an assault which occurred outside on the sidewalk area. Further investigation revealed that a 62-year-old victim sustained severe injuries to include a fractured skull and a brain bleed after an unprovoked attack by the suspect. The suspect was later identified as Bryon Bell (37 years old) of Middletown. Bell was captured on surveillance video striking, stomping, and kicking the female victim before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival.

Officers across all shifts worked tirelessly to locate and arrest Bell and prevent further damage to the community. On March 24, 2023 Bell was observed on Court Street and fled upon seeing officers. After a lengthy foot pursuit, Officers located Bell hiding behind a residence on St. John’s Street.
Bell was arrested and charged with Assault 1st Degree on an Elderly Victim, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Interfering with an Officer, and Breach of Peace 2nd Degree. He was held on A $750,000 surety bond and presented in court at GA 09 on March 27, 2023.
