Press Release -Shooting on Ferry Street (Updated)

On March 31, 2023 at approximately 10:25pm Middletown Officers were called to the area of 50-60 Ferry Street for the report of a shooting incident. On arrival officers located an undisclosed number of spent shell casings and a fired bullet but no one appeared to be injured.

A short time later officers were called to the area of Flower Street for a shooting victim. When Officers arrived on Flower Street, they located a 16-year-old male with a wound to his right knee. The victim was subsequently transported to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain for non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and two other teenage males were driving in the area of Ferry Street when an unknown suspect fired multiple rounds at the Nissan Sentra they were in. The victims left the area and drove to Flower Street where it was determined the vehicle was struck by multiple bullets. The victim’s names are not being released at this time. It appears that the suspect and victims knew one another so the Middletown Police Department has no reason to believe there is any other direct threats to the public.

The Middletown Police Major Investigations Unit is actively working on this investigation. Detectives received preliminary information that the suspect was a tall, slender, light skinned black male. The police are requesting that anyone with photos, surveillance footage, or information on the identity of the suspect to contact Major Investigations at 860-638-4140.

Update: It was determined that at least one victim of this incident has an association with the Middletown High School. The Middletown Police and Middletown High School Administration are already in direct communication to maintain the safety of the students and faculty during school hours. The public should expect an increased police presence at MHS in the coming days. In addition, the police are in touch with the victim's families to discuss safety planning to avoid future violence.
