PRESS RELEASE - THREAT TO SCHOOL

On April 6, 2023, the Middletown Police Department received information from a community stakeholder that a male in our community was making threats against Middletown Public Schools. The police investigated the matter and determined that the male party was not a credible threat to the schools at that time.

In an effort to ensure the public’s safety, Officers furthered their investigation and pursued a Risk Protection Order, which prohibits the party from obtaining weapons. Officers also obtained a search and seizure warrant into his residence for weapons and/or plans that could be used to assault a school. No such items were located.

Based on the investigation, it was determined that the male suffered from known mental illness and his statements did not rise to the level of a criminal violation. At no time was the male a viable threat to the Middletown Public Schools. He is not being identified at this time due to medical diagnoses and treatment protocols.
