Updated Press Release - MVA Hartford Ave

On June 4, 2023 at approximately 5:49pm, the Middletown Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and SUV on Hartford Ave. On arrival, Officers learned that the operator of the motorcycle, identified as 54-year-old Daniel Richer from Portland, CT, sustained a serious head injury. Richer was transported to Middlesex Hospital and airlifted to Hartford Hospital via Lifestar. Tragically, Richer succumbed to his injuries and died at Hartford Hospital on June 6, 2023 shortly after midnight. 

The operator of the second vehicle, a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was not injured. 

The collision is still under investigation but evidence and witness testimony suggests that Richer was traveling west on Hartford Ave when he crossed the centerline and struck the Jeep head on.
