Press Release - Stabbing Incident on Stoneycrest Drive

On June 29, 2023 at approximately 9:32pm, the Middletown Police were called to the area of Stoneycrest Drive for the report of a stabbing. On arrival, Officers determined that a male victim was stabbed during a physical fight. The male was immediately transported to Hartford Hospital by Hunter’s Ambulance for a stab wound to his chest. The victim’s name is not being released at this time but he is listed as being in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.  

During the investigation, Officers learned that the victim and a suspect were engaged in a physical fight when the suspect stabbed the victim and fled the area in a motor vehicle.

As Officer Arroyo was arriving on scene, he observed a 2010 Mercury Mariner leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The operator failed to obey the traffic control signal on Stoneycrest Drive at Newfield Street. Officer Arroyo stopped the vehicle on Newfield Street and identified the operator as 34-year-old Devin Dukes, with a last known address of 130 Palm Street in Hartford. Dukes was positively identified as the suspect by witnesses to the fight. He later admitted to assaulting the victim. A knife and brass knuckles were recovered from Dukes’ vehicle and officers determined that the marker plate on the Mariner was for a different vehicle.

Dukes was arrested and transported to Middletown Headquarters where he was charged with Assault 1^st Degree, Breach of Peace 2^nd Degree, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, Misuse of Marker Plates and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Signal. He was held on a $750,000 surety bond and scheduled to appear in court on June 30, 2023.
