Press Release - Serious MVA on Washington St

On December 26, 2023 at approximately 10:38am, Middletown Police Officers were dispatched to the report of a serious motor vehicle collision on Washington Street in the area of Sagamore Hills Apartments (1151/1189 Washington St).

On arrival, officers found two vehicles in the roadway. Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage and airbag deployment from what appeared to be a head on collision.

Officers found that the operator of one vehicle, a grey 2004 Mazda 3 bearing CT AR00947, was trapped in his vehicle. Fire personnel responded and removed the driver without incident. He was rushed to Hartford Hospital for a suspected broken leg but reported to be in stable condition.

The second vehicle, a black 2012 Chevrolet Traverse bearing CT 6ANRR5, had a driver and a passenger inside. Both occupants of the Chevrolet appeared to be uninjured but they were transported to Middlesex Hospital for evaluation.    

Witnesses in the area indicated that the Mazda was traveling west on Washington Street when the operator lost control of his vehicle. The Mazda crossed the centerline and struck the Chevrolet which was traveling east on Washington Street.

This is an active investigation so the names of the vehicle occupants are not being released at this time. Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to contact Officer C. Sienko at 860-638-4000.
