News Release - Moped v. Car on West Street

On April 13, 2024 at approximately 11:26am, Middletown Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries on West Street, just south of Middlefield Street.

On arrival, officers determined that a moped had collided with the rear of a 2002 Buick Rendezvous. The operator of the moped sustained severe head and facial injuries. He was quickly transported to Hartford Hospital by Hunter’s Ambulance where he remains in serious but stable condition. The operator of the Buick was not injured.

The preliminary investigation revealed that both vehicles were traveling north on West Street approaching the West Street train bridge. The operator of the Buick was slowing down for the speed bumps in the roadway. The moped was behind the Buick but the operator failed to slow down and collided with the rear of the Buick.

We are not currently releasing the identity of the operators.

This case is being investigated by the Middletown Police Traffic Division. Anyone with information on the collision in encouraged to contact Ofc E. Sanford at 860-638-4063.
