Hello Community Members and Mosaic Lovers,
It was lovely to see many so many of you at last month’s opening celebration for Pierre Sylvain’s new mosaics, and there is quite a bit more of that coming throughout the remainder of 2024. As those of you following us on Facebook or Instagram may already be aware, the next round of work is already on display at 428 Main Street in downtown Middletown courtesy of the brilliant Katharine Owens.
Owens’s mosaics explore the subject of what lives in soil. Just below our feet there is a whole world of creatures and micro-organisms going about their lives and in so doing creating healthy soil rich in nutrients and capable of supporting a myriad of life forms. You will also see a little piece of Ilana Harris-Babou’s work, more of which you may recall seeing on display at the same location prior to this (and which, if things go to plan, will eventually be on display adjacent to Owens’s new work in the tunnel).
We will have an event this week to offer people the opportunity to meet the artist, network with the Mosaics on Main community, and join the celebration of these beautiful new mosaics. We will be gathering Thursday, June 27, at 6pm in front of the exhibit, with remarks planned for 6:15 (and a rain date of Friday, June 28th - our Facebook or Instagram will offer notification if this switch needs to be made). If you are able, consider joining us!
Best,
Kate Ten Eyck
Artistic Director, Mosaics on Main
