News Release - Shooting Incident on Elm Street
On July 27, 2025 at approximately 10:29pm, Middletown Officers were dispatched to 17 Elm Street for the report of a fight between relatives. While in route, Dispatch updated officers that one party had been shot.
On arrival, Officers located 46-year-old Jerry Sweeney laying in the roadway in front of 17 Elm Street with a gunshot wound to his stomach. Officers began providing medical aid and requested an ambulance. Sweeney was subsequently transported to Hartford Hospital where he is said to be in stable condition.
Officers learned that Sweeney had been arguing with 43-year-old Arnie Clark of 17 Elm Street. Clark exited his residence when officers arrived and alleged to have shot Sweeney in self-defense. Clark told officers that Sweeney struck him with a hatchet during their altercation, which led to the shooting incident.
This case is actively being investigated by the Middletown Police Department’s Major Investigations Unit. No further details are being released at this time.
