News Release - Bank Robbery Arrest
On November 1, 2025 at approximately 9:19am, Middletown Police Officers responded to Liberty Bank at 460 South Main Street for the report of a robbery. Witnesses told officers a white male walked into the bank and implied that he had a weapon. Employees complied with the suspect’s demands for money and he left with an undetermined amount of cash. Detectives from the department’s Major Investigations Unit promptly developed 61-year-old Bruce Vaughan as the sole suspect in this incident. On November 5, 2025 at approximately 1:30am, Vaughan was located at a hotel in Meriden, CT. Middletown Police and Meriden Police personnel negotiated with Vaughan until approximately 8:00am when he surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. Vaughan was charged with Robbery in the 1st degree, Larceny in the 3rd degree, and threatening in the 2nd degree. He was also charged with two counts of Violation of Probation and held on a total of $225,000 in bonds pending his arraignment in Middlesex Superior Court on 11/6/25. Vaughan has two prior convictions in Connecticut for Robbery in the 2nd degree and was on probation at the time of this incident. An arrest is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. |
