News Release - Firearms Arrest
On 11/6/25 at about 6:00pm, Middletown Police Patrol Officers were on routine patrol when they saw a black BMW traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Liberty Street going through multiple stop signs at intersections. When officers were able to catch up to the vehicle, it quickly turned into a private driveway. The operator, later identified as Alton Malabre (33 years old from Hartford, CT), exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and engaged the officers in a brief foot chase. A police K-9 was able to recover a loaded black un-serialized 9mm handgun in close proximity to where Malabre was taken into custody.
Malabre was charged with Disobeying signal of an officer, Misuse of marker plates, Illegal operation of a vehicle with a suspended license, Illegal operation of vehicle without insurance, Reckless driving, Illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, Tampering with evidence, Carrying a pistol without a permit, Reckless Endangerment in the 1st degree, Illegal possession of weapons in a vehicle, and Illegal possession of a firearm without a serial number. Malabre was held on a $500,000 bond and arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court on 11/7/25.
An arrest is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
