Waacking Dance Workshop and Party with Tyrone Bevans
Monday, February 23, 2026
A high-energy introductory workshop to the dance style waacking!
Unleash your inner diva during a high-energy introductory workshop to the dance style waacking at 7pm, followed by a dance party at 8pm, led by New York-based dancer and choreographer Tyrone Bevans. Born in the 1970s LGBTQ disco club scene in Los Angeles, waacking is all about striking a pose and putting your fabulousness in the spotlight with exuberance, confidence, and deep connection to the music. Come for the workshop and stay for the dance. No experience necessary. Admission is free, and the event is open to all.
Tyrone Bevans is a dancer and sound/visual artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Raised in the Bronx, he received his early training from the Martha Graham School of contemporary dance and the Mark Morris Dance Center. Bevans is currently dancing for Princess Lockerooo’s Fabulous Waack Dancers and Assistant Professor of the Practice in Dance and African American Studies Joya Powell’s Movement of the People Dance Company. In the past, Bevans has performed and collaborated with artists such as Christal Brown, Chafin Seymour, J.Bouey, and Maya Orchin. As a mover, Bevans investigates space, risk, and play with one’s physical vernacular in order to access personal freedom.
