On July 21, 2021, a bipartisan group of seven state attorneys general announced a proposed settlement agreement with the three largest opioid distributors and manufacturers over the lawsuits filed against them regarding their role in the opioid epidemic. Nationally, the settlement could provide up to $25 billion to states over the next 18 years. Connecticut will receive approximately $600M over 18 years, with about half going to municipalities. The City of Middletown will receive around $900,000. The City of Middletown Health Department oversees the allocation of opioid settlement funds.
