Our Mission

As set out in the Special Acts of Connecticut (1895 – 1897): “That O. Vincent Coffin, Charles E. Jackson, Henry Woodward, Samuel Russell, William T. Elmer, George H. Hulbert, Richard L. De Zeng, Mary A.H. Bunce, Katharine S. Bacon, Mary S. Northrop, Fanny J. Hotchkiss. Walter B. Hubbard, Wallace K. Bacon, Frank Farnsworth Starr, Daniel W. Chase, William H. Burrows, Elijah K. Hubbard, James P. Stow, Conrad G. Bacon, all of Middletown, and such other persons as many hereafter be associated with them, and their successors, be and they are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate, under the name of The Middletown Old Burying Ground Association, for the purpose of superintending, caring for, and preserving old and neglected burying grounds or cemeteries, situated in the town Middletown, and especially the burying grounds known as and called The Old North Burying Ground, or Riverside Cemetery, and the Old Washington Street Cemetery. Said corporation shall have power to enclose and improve said old burying grounds, and any other burying grounds in said Middletown, that are abandoned and not cared for by any corporation, associations, or owners…”

Proudly, The Middletown Old Burying Ground Association continues to carry forth the vision and desire of the aforementioned individuals (all of them once pillars of their community), which is to oversee, care for, preserve, and improve the historic cemeteries of Middletown, Connecticut.
