[ARCHIVED] Swap Shack Temporarily Closed

Swap Shack with Sign_ Jan 22

Effective August 9, 2023 the Middletown Swap Shack will be closed.

The Public Works Department is disappointed to announce that due to misuse and abuse the Swap Shack at the Recycling Center is being temporarily closed.  The Swap Shack is a wonderful place for household items to have a new life.   It is a place where people can bring items in good condition for someone else to take and use for no charge.  However, recently, we have seen an increase in people leaving unacceptable items at the Swap Shack and leaving the building itself in horrific conditions. The Swap Shack has been maintained by volunteers for decades but only recently has the management become too much for even  the most enthusiastic volunteers to handle.

The City and the Resource Recycling Advisory Commission will be discussing how to move forward.   If you are interested in being part of the solution, contact the City Recycling Coordinator at recycling@middletownct.gov
