The City of Middletown is accepting applications for residents to serve on a commission to revise its charter. The charter is the constitution for city government. The commission’s goal in reviewing the charter is to increase efficiency in government services for Middletown citizens.
This is the beginning of a process that will end with a vote in next year’s general election on whether to pass the charter revisions. The city is starting the process early in order to give plenty of time to seek community input and to consider potential changes.
The commission will consist of up to 15 people and it cannot have more than a bare majority from the same party. All members of the commission must be Middletown voters.
If you are a Middletown voter and you want to serve on the commission, you will need to fill out a simple form by September 28. The form is available online at https://www.middletownct.gov/FormCenter/Sitewide-Forms-13/Charter-Revision-Commission-Application-86. You can also express interest by sending an e-mail to charterrevision@middletownct.gov. The Common Council will appoint the commission members at its October 5 meeting.
