[ARCHIVED] Community Compost Bin and Rain Barrel Sale

Earth Machine_Jeffs

The City of Middletown and the Lower CT River Valley Council of Government (RiverCOG) community compost sale is OPEN!   Compost bins and rain barrels must be pre-ordered by April 28, 2023 and then picked up in Middletown or Essex on Sunday, April 30th.

The State of Connecticut is working towards a goal of reducing and recycling 60% of its waste by 2024.  Municipalities are trying to control escalating trash disposal costs.  Organic material comprises approximately 40% of the entire municipal waste stream.  By residents composting their own organic materials (yard debris and food waste), it can reduce waste going to the trash incinerators and landfills, and save money.  Also, homeowners will end up with “black gold”, a compost material that can be used in gardens, on lawns and in flower beds.

Compost bins are on display at Reboot Eco, 131 River Road, Middletown.  The Compost Bin garden is outside and can be viewed anytime during daylight hours.

More information and ordering procedures can be found at  www.connecticut.compostersale.com/rivercog/. This sale is open to everyone; not just Middletown and RiverCOG residents.

For more information contact Recycling@Middletownct.Gov, info@rivercog.org or call 860-581-8554.
