Trees in Connecticut, whether in a forest or urban setting, are being affected by climate change. We are experiencing different weather patterns, storm intensity, and average and extreme temperatures and precipitation. This is affecting which species do well in Connecticut along with the incidence of various diseases and pests.
We will explore what species do well or may do well in the future; how to care for existing trees; what funding is available to help mitigate the challenges to trees; how the Hartford Tree Canopy Action Plan guides tree planting; pending legislation related to urban and forest trees; and how the lens of equity and environmental justice affects what and where to plant.
