Real Estate Taxes
Real estate taxes are calculated by multiplying the mill rate against the assessment. The Assessor must determine values, relative to the date of the assessment, and assesses all property based upon 70% of that value. Taxes are computed and collected by the Tax Collector. Taxes are collected based upon the municipal fiscal year, which runs July 1 through June 30 of the following year, and are due in two installments (July 1st and January 1st).
Fire District
Each fire district sets the fire district mill rates. The City Fire District tax is added to the Real Estate Tax bill and is included in the total due. The South Fire and Westfield Fire Districts bill and collect separately.
