Christmas Tree Recycling

Every year in early January City of Middletown Public Works crews circulate through the City and collect Christmas trees for recycling.  The trees are turned into woodchips which are then available to residents.   Please note crews only pick up real, live Christmas trees.  Artificial trees must be disposed of as bulky waste.  

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING PROGRAM

Christmas trees will be taken in two manners, they can either be brought to the City Recycling Center, free of charge, for recycling, or placed at the curb for collection by the Middletown Public Works Department.   Public Works trucks will circulate through the City, for two weeks in January to collect Christmas trees set out at the curb on public streets.

 All trees must be prepared accordingly:

1. All decorations must be removed, including tinsel;

2. Plastic bags must also be removed;

3. Trees should be placed bottom end facing the curb; and

4. Trees will only be collected from public streets.

 The collection schedule will depend upon weather conditions.  Heavy snow will delay collection of the trees.   

Trees delivered directly to the Recycling Center must also have all decorations removed and be emptied from plastic bags. Residents must obtain a free pass to use the Recycling Center. This can be obtained on line and the pass will be mailed to you or by coming to the Department of Public Works in City Hall.  Please bring your vehicle registration with you.  The Center is open Monday – Friday 7a.m. – 2:45p.m. and the first and third Saturdays of the month, 7a.m. – 11:45 am.
