Brush is not considered bulky waste and will be picked up free of charge. It is always suspended from mid-October to March due to leaf collection and snow plowing. During the winter, if there is a storm, public works crews will circulate through the City to pick up storm branches placed at the curb. Please call the Public Works Administrative office at 860-638-4850 to schedule a pick up.
If you live in the Sanitation District, brush must be cut to 4' lengths and tied with string. Outside of the District it still must be cut to 4' lengths, but does not need to be tied.
Brush can always be brought to the Recycling Center (PDF) by residents at no charge. If brush is brought in by a contractor, they will be assessed a $25/load charge.
Brush is chipped up and offered to residents at no charge. Residents can pick up wood chips from the Recycling Center or have large dump truck loads delivered at no charge after the proper paperwork is filed and approved. A waiver form (PDF) must be signed and notarized prior to delivery. If woodchips are picked up at the Recycling Center, residents can load directly into their truck or bring barrels or bags. No loading assistance is given.
Please take note of any invasive species on your property. More information can be found here.
