Leaf Collection

Middletown Fall Leaf Collection

UPDATE: As of 12/5/2025 - Leaf collection has been completed. The City trucks have been down every street twice.

Residents still wishing to dispose of leaves, brush or garden debris, may do so at the Recycling Center free of charge during regular opening hours (resident tag required).

Middletown 2025 Leaf Collection Guidelines

Curbside vacuum leaf collection will begin November 17th, 2025 with crews making two rounds through the city. To ensure that your leaves are collected this season, place them at the curb by November 17th!

Leaves can be raked to the curb loose or placed in brown paper bags. Leaves will not be picked up at all if they are in plastic bags!

Leaves may not be placed in the street. All leaf piles must be placed behind the curb or edge of road.  The use of brown paper bags is encouraged for safety reasons.  If leaves are left loose, the homeowner is responsible for maintaining leaf piles.

To accommodate leaf collectionbrush and bulky waste pickups will be suspended effective October 10, 2025. Payments for bulk waste must be made by that date.

Sanitation District residents only: Leaves may be picked up earlier in the Sanitation District only by placing leaves in brown paper leaf bags (NO plastic bags) along the back side of the curb starting October 20, 2025. Bags must be free of branches, grass and yard waste.

All residents that wish to dispose of leaves earlier than November 17 may bring them directly to the Middletown Recycling Center during their normal operating hours.

Leaf collection does not begin until November 17, 2025.  In an effort to keep our city safe and clean, please refrain from raking leaves to the curb until the weekend of November 15, 2025.  Prior to that, leaves can be placed in paper bags or brought directly to the recycling center.

Due to the nature of vacuum collection, a small amount of leaves may escape and be left behind. These chopped up leaves will be collected by the city street sweeper during its normal rounds.

Residents are encouraged to use natural leaf disposal methods.  Mulching or composting leaves on your property is the most environmentally-friendly option of leaf disposal. Please consider these options if you have the space. More information can be found at https://www.middletownct.gov/903/Composting.
